Minnesota officials this week are expected to back a $5.9 million state loan to Delta Air Lines to expand a reservation sales center on the Iron Range.
The deal would add more than 100 jobs at the facility in Chisholm, one of 10 reservation centers Delta operates across the country. The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board will vote on the loan at its meeting Thursday.
Delta employs 418 people at the center who earn between $22,000 and $48,000 per year. The expansion is "great news for the region and for the state that Delta is continuing their commitment to Minnesota," IRRB Commissioner Tony Sertich said.
The center first opened in 1995 as part of Northwest Airlines after the state provided the company a $9.7 million forgivable loan. The airline paid the remaining $1 million after $8.7 million was forgiven. Delta took over the center after buying Northwest.
The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board reinvests a portion of the state's production tax on taconite iron ore in economic development projects in northeast Minnesota.
