Customers of a Minnesota-based home brewing supply company may have had their credit card and other personal data stolen in a security breach this summer.
Malicious software found on the host servers of Midwest Supplies LLC put customer data at "high risk of compromise" between June 13 and July 19, the company's attorney said in a letter to law enforcement officials.
Home addresses, telephone numbers, credit card numbers, card expiration dates and security codes may have been exposed.
The St. Louis Park-based company said it discovered the malware on July 19 and quickly took steps to seal the breach. Last week, it sent letters to potentially affected customers, warning them of the breach and to keep watch on their credit reports. It offered a $25 coupon as a gesture of apology.
"We took immediate measures to resolve the situation and are satisfied that it is, in fact, resolved," Midwest Supplies President David Kidd wrote to customers. "We conducted a full investigation and have taken extensive steps to prevent it from happening again."
It's not clear how many people were affected. Kidd could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday afternoon. SC Magazine, a publication for information technology officers, reported the Midwest Supplies breach on Friday.
