Sauna-on-a-stick
It was a great time at the Fair today with Cathy Wurzer and Mark Seeley, Pete Boulay and a host of MPR listeners at the Fair. Call it the Great Minnesota Sweat Together, it was hot...and extremely humid.
It didn't help that the MPR booth on Judson is between the french fries and pork chop on a stick booths. Forgive me if my mind is a bit deep-fried as I type this today.
Any way you slice it..Tuesday was oppressive. Our dew point reached 77 degrees at 3pm today, and my colleague Mark Seeley says that ties the record for the highest dew point ever recorded at the Fair and on this date. The Twin Cities NWS has more details.

State Fair Heat Wave 2013: The Worst Is Over
The worst of our record setting "State Fair Heat Wave of 201" is behind us now. It will still be in the 90s Wednesday...but dew points will be in the 60s...noticeably lower than the record setting 77 degree mark we reached Tuesday. Real relief is on the way by Labor Day. Here's' the Euro model output which (as usual) picked up on the trend first.
"Dry Front" drifts through metro late Tuesday
You could literally see the line of cumulus along the cool front drift from north to south through the metro late Tuesday afternoon on doppler.
Here's a look from the GOES 1km visible satellite as the front pushed south.
2nd Hottest State Fair Ever?
Overall this looks like it will go down as the 2nd hottest Fair on record. Here's the data through Monday from Pete Boulay at the MN Climate Working Group. Add in Tuesday's high of 96 and we're closer to the #1 slot with an average high near 92.3 degrees.
Bring on the 70s and 80s. After today at the Fair "September" finally looks like a good idea.
