An offender has died at the Minnesota Sex Offender Program just days after another man held in the facility committed suicide.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services confirmed that a 53-year-old man died at the program's facility in Moose Lake Wednesday. The agency said his body showed no signs of self-inflicted injuries or violence and that they're investigating his cause of death. They aren't releasing the offender's name.
On Saturday, a 45-year-old man in the program, identified by other offenders as Ray Messer, died in what officials said was the first suicide death in the program's history.
The Minnesota Sex Offender Program locked down the facility for a short time on Wednesday morning.
The program includes more than 600 offenders who were civilly committed by the courts following the completion of their prison sentences.
