Supporters of tightened gun regulation threw sharp criticism at Congress on Wednesday during a rally in downtown Minneapolis.
About 200 people participated in the rally, part of a national bus tour organized by the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The group is pushing for background checks that would cover gun shows and other measures intended to keep guns away from criminals.
Rabbi Michael Latz of Shir Tikvah in Minneapolis led a long list of speakers that included the sister of a Newtown, Conn., shooting victim and one of the survivors of last year's Accent Signage shooting in Minneapolis.
Latz called Congress' inaction a "grotesque failure."
John Souter, a survivor of the Accent Signage shooting, pressured his own congressman, Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen, to support the legislation.
The rally ended with several people, including former Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan, taking turns reading names of people killed by gun violence in the U.S.
