Why Minnesota industry just needs good learners

Chris Ratzlaff, senior HR administrator at Dakota Electric, tells the Star Tribune the company looks for smart people who can adapt to new technology -- and don't just look for those with hard-to-find specialized skills:

“If somebody taught themselves a specific software program, or they’re a good learner, there’s a good chance that they’re going to be able to pick up the skill that you want them to have."

The Strib reports that Minnesota companies, along with those in other parts of the country, are having a hard time hiring tech -- and that they're partly to blame. A recent study shows they put out overly specific job descriptions, often don't offer enough pay, have a bad IT image or don't know how to recruit effectively.
