Gov. Mark Dayton has noted that starting this month, Minnesota's 6-year-old GI Bill (not the federal one) extends to any veteran (under the age of 62) who has served honorably in any military at any time.
Before the change in law, only veterans who served after September 11, 2001 could get it.
The benefit gives vets $10,000 to help pay for post-secondary education.
I'm curious how many more vets are expected to take advantage of this. The folks at the state Office of Higher Education say this year's legislation had no fiscal note, but that a previous year's version might. I'll try to hunt that down.
