STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) -- A new trial will get under way in Washington County for a woman whose conviction in the death of her newborn was overturned.
Nicole Beecroft was 17 when she gave birth at her Oakdale home in April 2007, fatally stabbed the infant and placed the body in a trash can. She was found guilty of murder and sent to prison for life.
But, her conviction and life sentence were overturned last year when the Minnesota Supreme Court said Beecroft's right to due process was violated. Beecroft has maintained the baby was stillborn.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says Beecroft's new trial begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
