The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a new mobile app for people who want to buy fishing licenses.
The app has not been officially announced, but people have already used it to purchase 222 licenses, said fish and wildlife information officer Pete Takash.
"Basically, if somebody has forgotten to buy their fishing license or they're out somewhere and say, 'Oh, I'd like to go fishing' and they have a smartphone," he said, "if they go to the DNR website, it will automatically take them to a mobile site where they can buy a fishing license."
People who buy licenses need only show conservation officers an email or text on their phone that confirms they purchased a license, Takash said.
The app may come in handy the next few days because it's a good time for fishing, he said.
"It's not so warm yet and we've had a fairly cool summer with lots of rain, so a lot of the fish have not got into their mid-summer habits yet," Takash said. "Just generally speaking, as it gets warmer fish tend to go to deeper water, where it's cooler and more comfortable for them to be."
