Pride, Twins and Tom Petty to draw thousands to downtown Mpls. this weekend

The Twin Cities Pride Festival, the Minnesota Twins and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will draw thousands of people to downtown Minneapolis this weekend.

City officials are urging people to use public transit for the events, and light rail trains will have three cars during the events to accommodate more riders.

On Saturday, the end of the Twins game against the Kansas City Royals will coincide with people headed to the Tom Petty concert at the Target Center. And on Sunday, the Pride Parade will close Hennepin Avenue, which could affect people going to the midday Twins game.

Saturday:

  •  Twins vs. Royals at 3:10 p.m.

  •  Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at Target Center, doors open at 6:30 p.m. for 7:30 p.m. concert

Sunday:

  • Pride Parade on Hennepin Avenue, street closures begin at 8:30 a.m. with parade starting at 11 a.m.

  • Twins vs. Royals, gates open at 11 a.m. for 1:10 p.m. game

Sunday street closures for Pride Parade:

  • Hennepin Avenue closed from 8th to 9th streets at 8:30 a.m. and from Washington to Lyndale from 10:30 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m.

  • 3rd Street closed from Hennepin to Portland from 8:30 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m.

  • 6th St. closed from 1st Avenue to Hennepin from 10:30 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m.

  • 8th St., 9th St., 13th, Spruce, and 16th streets will not allow traffic to cross Hennepin from 10:30 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m.
