After four terms in Congress, Republican Michelle Bachmann has decided not to run for re-election. Bachmann made the announcement this morning in a video posted on her website.
She did not indicate what she plans to do next. Bachmann narrowly defeated Democrat Jim Graves in the 2012 Sixth District race. Graves is running for that seat again in 2014.
She is also being investigated for campaign finance violations that allegedly took place during her 2012 presidential campaign which ended after the Iowa Caucuses.
MPR's Phil Picardi spoke with Minnesota Public Radio's Washington correspondent Brett Neely about Bachmann's decision to only serve out her current term.
