Twins plan to play weekend home series despite snow

The grounds crew at Target Field is busy preparing the snow-covered ballpark for a weekend series between the Twins and the New York Mets, which begins Friday night.

Team spokesman Kevin Smith says right now the plan is to play baseball, despite the spring snowfall. He said the field is uncovered so the heaters under the grass have been turned up to help melt the snow as it comes down. And Smith says crews are working in shifts clearing snow from the stands and the warning track around the field.

"It's just like what MnDOT does," Smith said. "They've got crews out there during snow events and trying to remove the snow as it falls. And that's exactly what we're doing here at Target Field."

The three-game series is the only time the Twins will play the Mets this season. Smith said it will be difficult to reschedule any cancelled games.
