No arrests yet in case of felon found in minivan with 19 firearms

The Richfield Police Department is investigating an incident in October involving a convicted felon found in a minivan full of rifles and shotguns.

According to court documents, a search warrant conducted last week turned up 19 shotguns and rifles, as well as boxes of ammunition in the back of a purple Dodge Caravan.

The firearms were discovered after a Richfield police officer responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle. The officer found a man asleep in the minivan, which was missing a tire. The man, 26, has been convicted of multiple felonies including assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property.

The man has not been charged and no arrests have been made, although the investigation is ongoing, Richfield Police officials say. A spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' St. Paul office said the ATF is helping to trace the weapons to determine where they were purchased and who purchased them.

In Minnesota, it is illegal for a convicted felon to possess a firearm
