Officials say a car driven by an 11th grade student rear-ended a school bus shortly before 3 p.m. today near New Prague. No students were injured.
The bus was stopped when the school bus driver noticed a car coming rapidly from behind, according to Larry Kauzlarich, superintendent of the New Prague Area Schools.
"When he noticed the car coming up at a rapid rate of speed, he started moving forward so he could try to get away from it, and of course, that did help lessen the concussion of the hit," said Kauzlarich. "I think the bus driver did a really nice job of being alert and noticing the car coming rapidly."
Kauzlarich says none of the 30 students on the bus was injured. The driver of the car was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
