The Minnesota high school boy's basketball tournament gets underway Wednesday at the Target Center in Minneapolis and this year marks the state's 100th boy's basketball tournament.
The Minnesota State High School League, the organization that runs all high school sports tournaments, is going all out to showcase that history. There will be a display at Target Center with scores of memorabilia, including the trophy awarded to Fosston in the first year of the tournament in 1913.
The high school league also in the weeks leading up to the tournament created several lists ranking the top five players, coaches, games and other markers in both boy's and girl's basketball history.
Kevin Merkle, Minnesota State High School League associate director, spoke with The Daily Circuit about the history of the league and the lists they created.
