Sean Kershaw and Stacy Becker of the Citizens League in St. Paul write in the Star Tribune that whether students should go to college is a much more complicated issue than society makes it out to be:
"Rather than pound, pound, pound into their heads "Go to college, you'll earn more," we owe them a more nuanced truth. ... Your college (four-year degree) premium will depend on your ethnicity and gender. It will depend on your field of study, and the quality of the school you attended, and whether or not you get a job in your field."
