West Summit Neighborhood Advisory Committee Co-chair Scott Banas explains the committee's concern over whether the University of St. Thomas' St. Paul campus should be able to sell alcohol outside as part of a proposed permanent liquor license:
"We think it sets a bad (precedent). We think it is wrong for an institution of higher education to be demonstrating or practicing the consumption of alcohol in an open area where students can plainly see adults consuming alcohol.”
Banas also said people drinking outdoors might end up taking it into the neighborhood, and that it might increase alcohol use among students.
The move for a license seems to come at a tricky time in campus-neighborhood relations.
