Considering the Governor's Job Summit happening today and MnSCU's push for career technical education (announced last week), check out this snippet from the Minneapolis - St. Paul Business Journal on this year's Minnesota Skills Gap Survey:
About 45 percent of manufacturers in the 2011 Minnesota Skills Gap Survey said the shortage of skilled workers was a moderate or serious problem, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) study.
"State manufacturers have openings, but Minnesotans who are looking for work often don't have the right skills to fill them," DEED Commissioner Mark Phillips said in a news release.
The biggest shortages were in skilled production (58 percent of respondents said had unfilled positions) and jobs for scientists and engineers (40 percent).
Shortages were not as severe in low-skilled production, management and administration, and customer service, DEED said.
