The Asian carp czar for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says those with a stake in the future of the Great Lakes should help educate the public about the dangers posed by the invasive species.

The Times of Munster reports John Goss spoke Tuesday at the start of a three-day conference on the state of Lake Michigan that being held in Michigan City, Ind.

Goss says DNA testing this summer on Lake Calumet on Chicago's southeast side showed three positive results for Asian carp DNA but no live fish were found.

He says researchers at the University of Notre Dame who are leading the testing will continue their work this winter to better determine what positive DNA tests reveal about the spread of Asian carp.
