GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Some people in northeastern Wisconsin are smelling smoke from a wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota.
Northwest winds in the wake of a strong cold front have carried the smoke about 300 miles to Wisconsin. Forecasters tell WLUK-TV the smoke may affect the air quality in northeastern Wisconsin over the next few days. The elderly, children and those with respiratory or cardiac problems are advised to take care.
Meanwhile, forecaster Mike Boguth of the National Weather Service in Gaylord, Mich., said Tuesday a smokey smell was noticeable in Traverse City.
In the Marquette area, the weather service reported ash falling from the sky and reduced visibility in some places.
