DNR predicts best fall colors in Minn in 10 years

The Department of Natural Resources is predicting this fall's color season will be the best Minnesota has seen in 10 years.

DNR forest health specialist Jana Albers says vivid colors statewide are predicted, thanks to adequate rain during the growing season and recent warm days and cool evenings.

Starting this week, the DNR's website will post fall color reports that include percent of color change, peak color projections and the state parks that are considered "hot picks" of the week. The reports will be updated at noon every Thursday.

Colors typically peak between mid-September and early October in the northern third of Minnesota, between late September and early October in the central third, and between late September and mid-October in the southern third of the state.
