Travel on a busy section of Interstate 35W in downtown Minneapolis will be complicated by detours late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Starting at 10 p.m., the left lanes of southbound I-35W between Washington Avenue and Interstate 94 will be closed. At midnight, all southbound lanes will be closed. MnDOT expects the southbound lanes to be reopened by 5 a.m. Friday.
The detour uses the ramp to westbound I-94, eastbound Highway 55 and southbound I-35W.
Similar closures of the northbound lanes of I-35W in Minneapolis will start on Friday at 10 p.m. All northbound 35W lanes will close at midnight between I-94 and Washington. The detour follows the Washington Avenue ramps. The highway is expected to fully re-open early Saturday morning.
The closures are due to construction on a new bridge for the Central Corridor Light Rail.
