The state of Minnesota has warned its private contractors that they won't be paid if the current budget impasse between Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican lawmakers is unresolved by July 1.

The notice was published Tuesday in the State Register. It notifies all contractors, vendors and grantees that have contractual relationships with the state that their work and payments will probably be suspended July 1 unless a new state budget is passed and signed.

The regular legislative session ended last week with no deal between Dayton and Republicans to erase a projected $5 billion shortfall in the two-year state budget. Dayton says he won't call lawmakers back to special session until a deal is reached, and he's instructed state agencies to begin preparing for a possible shutdown.
