Gov. Mark Dayton will heading to Grand Rapids Friday for the 2011 Governor's Fishing Opener.
When the season opens Saturday morning, Dayton plans to be fishing on Pokegama Lake with professional angler Scott Glorvigen as his guide.
Glorvigen told the Duluth News Tribune last week he'd probably be fishing on Lake Winnibigoshish if he weren't hosting the governor. He says Pokegama isn't a lake he'd choose to open on because it's so deep and cold with a big smelt population. But he says the quality of walleye fishing there turns phenomenal in early June.
Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon will be fishing with another Grand Rapids area guide, Gordon Fothergill.
