Republicans in the Minnesota legislature have proposed a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. A majority of states already have such amendments, and another dozen (including Minnesota) have laws banning it. But the states are not united on this issue, and some have gone the opposite direction, legalizing same-sex marriage.
This map shows where each state currently stands, according to data collected by the National Conference of State Legislatures. Click a state for more detail on its laws regarding same-sex marriage.
