Target has revised its policy on political contributions, following a furor that arose last year after Target gave $150,000 to a group backing Tom Emmer, the Republican Party's candidate for governor.
Emmer opposed same-sex marriage. Target said it's contribution was based solely on business interests. But the donation outraged many Target employees and shoppers who didn't agree with Emmer's position on same-sex marriage.
Target says it conducted a thorough review of its policies regarding political actions and contributions. Now, Targets says a committee of senior executives will review a political contribution before it's made.
The committee will assess if it advances Target's business or public policy interests and considers the interests of customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders.
