Former St. Paul Winter Carnival king and queen get married

If you missed it, here's a wonderful story by New York Times reporter Nina Reyes about what was apparently the first-ever marriage of two St. Paul Winter Carnival monarchs.

75-year old Dorothy Arneberg Furlong, festival queen in 1955, married 80-year old Charlie Hall, who held the king's throne in 1983.

Mrs. Furlong said she understands why some might question the need for an actual wedding. "At our age, what the heck difference does it make?" she said.

But Mr. Hall explained for them: "Love is a word that means different things to different people, but we'll have a commitment, which is why we're getting married," he said.
