DNR chief names fish, wildlife director to top post

Minnesota's new DNR commissioner, Tom Landwehr, has named his deputy.

Landwehr has chosen the director of the agency's Fish and Wildlife Division, Dave Schad, as his top assistant. Schad has worked in various positions at the DNR since he was a student in 1981.

Landwehr says he has managerial skills and good judgment about complex issues.

Schad replaces Laurie Martinson, who was named deputy commissioner by former Commissioner Mark Holsten in 2007.

Schad is an avid hunter, angler, camper and bicyclist. He lives with his wife in White Bear Lake.
