Gov. Tim Palwenty is asking for a federal agricultural disaster declaration for four Minnesota counties because of significant crop losses.
Pawlenty made the request Monday for Chippewa, Renville, Wright and Freeborn counties.
Pawlenty says growing conditions were difficult for farmers in those counties because of a late frost and other weather problems. Freeborn County had tornadoes, hailstorms, heavy rains and flooding.
The governor made his request in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The letter asks that farmers in those counties be made eligible for USDA low-interest emergency loans.
