As I reported recently, Minnesota West Community & Technical College student leader Ryan Lubke complained about the overall low quality of community college commercials. That's a potential problem, now that the two-year institutions face stiff competition from heavily marketed for-profits.

I just ran into these two ads by Lake Superior College. I don't know how Lubke sees it, but these seem pretty snazzy. They have a whimsical retro feel that sets them apart from the others college ads I've seen.

(By the way, I showed one to my MPR colleague, Tim Post, and asked what he thought of it. He said it reminded him of a for-profit commercial. So Lake Superior may be onto something.)
