Several Minnesota daily newspapers, including the state's largest, have endorsed the Independence Party's Tom Horner for governor in the three-way race against Democrat Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer.
The Star Tribune of Minneapolis says in an editorial Sunday that Horner is the most effective communicator of the three and has the best chance to overcome partisan gridlock in St. Paul.
The Forum of Fargo, N.D., the Duluth News Tribune and the Bemidji Pioneer also endorsed Horner Sunday, with all echoing the sentiment that he seems most likely to build consensus among all Minnesotans rather than appealing to the extremes of the two parties.
Polls have shown Horner, a public relations executive and former Republican, consistently trailing both Dayton and Emmer by double-digit figures.
