The College of St. Scholastica has been ranked 34th best college in the nation for military veterans by the Military Times Edge magazine -- one of four Minnesota nonprofit and for-profit colleges.
The magazine ranked colleges according to the financial assistance they give vets, academic flexibility, campus culture (such as ROTC programs and percentage of vets on campus) and support services.

Scholastica President Larry Goodwin says he's a veteran of the Vietnam War and knows how hard it can be for a soldier to make the transition into civilian life. He told the Duluth News Tribune:
“What the college is trying to do is simply provide an environment that acknowledges there may be difficulty making a transition,” he said. “There are people who put their lives on the line, and they want an education. We should make a special effort on their behalf.”
