Mississippi River falling in St. Paul

The Mississippi River is receding after cresting around noon Saturday in St. Paul at 17.1 feet.

KSTP-TV reports the crest was about a foot lower than originally forecast. High water reached the walkway along Shepard Road and flowed into Holman Field, which is expected to re-open Monday.

The Minnesota River is also falling after cresting in Jordan and Shakopee.

However, the National Weather service reports the Mississippi River at Wabasha was nearly a foot above flood stage Sunday morning, causing minor flooding.

At Winona, the Mississippi was just under flood stage Sunday morning but was forecast to keep rising until Tuesday. Patrols along the river's dikes have begun.
