Video: How to start a (college?) movement

I'm usually not one for books or talks on leadership, as I've seen too many that are long-winded and filled with platitudes and psycho-babble.

But this short video, shown at a North Hennepin Community College employee planning meeting, is fun -- and offers a look into the keys to leading a large group.

Considering what was said in MPR's Monday segment on what qualities to look for in a college chief, it's pretty timely. (Listen up, University of Minnesota and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities: Everyone is talking about the "vision" thing.)

Hint:

If you are a version of the shirtless dancing guy, all alone, remember the importance of nurturing your first few followers as equals, making everything clearly about the movement, not you. ...

But the biggest lesson here - did you catch it?

Leadership is over-glorified.

(And if you think it doesn't apply to the upcoming U of M and MnSCU appointments, you can at least use the tips to jazz up your next lame party or wedding.)
