Maybe this has happened to you recently. Your phone rings, and when you answer, it's not a person on the other end of the line, it's a recording offering you a lower credit card interest rate, a new home security system or information about health insurance. They're called "press one" calls, and they're illegal. The Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer protection gets between 650 and 900 complaints a month from Minnesotans who've received "press one" calls.

MPR's Phil Picardi spoke with David Torok, who directs the bureau's Division of Training and Information.
