Some community colleges in Minnesota are moving up their application deadlines to make sure students are better prepared for class.
In the past, full-time students at Normandale could apply for a class even after it was in session. This year's deadline is August 15, a week before classes start.
Normandale's director of admissions Matt Crawford hopes the earlier deadline will help retain more students.
"When we looked at the applicants that applied the week before the semester started through the first week of classes and compared them to student who applied even weeks before that, the success rate is a lot lower," Crawford said.
Three other Minnesota community colleges moved up their application deadlines this year as well. Minneapolis Community and Technical College moved its deadline to August 13th. Century College in White Bear Lake set an application deadline of August 13th. Pine Technical College changed its deadline to August 9th.
