The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has closed a section of state Highway 35 in the western part of the state because of concerns that recent heavy rainfall could affect the Big River Bridge.
The portion of highway is in Pierce County near Ellsworth. Crews from the DOT and the Pierce County Highway Department are making repairs to the bridge to make sure its structure can hold up to high and heavy currents in the Big River, which is a Mississippi River tributary.
The highway closure will remain in effect until engineers decide the bridge is safe for the public.
