A University of St. Thomas professor has touched off a bitter trans-Atlantic cyberflap that's resulted in threats of legal action.
It started when John Abraham posted an extensive online slideshow rebutting a speech last October at Bethel University by a British climate change skeptic, Christopher Monckton.
Abraham said Friday he decided he had a responsibility as a scientist to speak out. He responded to Abraham with a 99-page letter.
Monckton claimed he was libeled. He has called Abraham "wretched," St. Thomas President Dennis Dease a "creep," and made dismissive comments about the school and the archbishop of St. Paul.
In an interview from London, Monckton said he's entitled to be angry. He says he's been libeled, and he's exploring his legal options.
St. Thomas is backing the professor.
