Six mining companies are doing exploration work that could lead to mines near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and that's got a lot of people concerned.

Exploratory drill sites
All along Highway 1 near Ely, Minn. are gravel roads that lead into the forest and many have wooden signs with markers saying such things is "DM 110," which is a sign indicating an exploratory drill site for Duluth Metals. There are dozens of such roads around Ely and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
