Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Entenza says he wants to opt out of the federal No Child Left Behind law and put in place Minnesota-specific testing standards for public school students.
Entenza unveiled his education plan on Thursday with stops in Duluth, St. Paul and Rochester.
The former state legislator is running in a Democratic primary against former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton and House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher.
Entenza's plan would also increase mentoring and other professional support for teachers, step up the use of technology such as televised language classes and create a website for lesson plans. He says he would also establish an independent research center to evaluate teaching approaches around the state.
