A sixth-grader from Sartell Middle School is representing Minnesota at the National Geographic Bee.
Gopi Ramanathan, 12, won the state competition in April. WJON Radio of St. Cloud says he'll be the youngest of the more than 50 kids in grades four through eight competing Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
Some of Gopi's classmates at Sartell Middle School have designed T-shirts to help cheer him on. His fellow students helped him prepare by quizzing him on world locations and capitals on the bus to school.
Ten finalists move into the final round on Wednesday night, which is being aired live at 7:00 p.m. CDT on the National Geographic Channel.
