Workshops on future of Minn. parks and trails set

A series of workshops will give citizens an opportunity to help chart the future of Minnesota's state and regional parks and trails.

The 17 meetings will be held around the state in May and June. They'll offer citizens a chance to influence the Parks and Trails Legacy Plan, which will guide funding decisions.

The plan flows from a constitutional amendment approved in 2008 for a sales tax increase to fund natural resources and arts projects, including parks and trails. It will be presented to the Legislature by Feb. 15, 2011.

The Department of Natural Resources and the Citizens League are organizing the workshops.

Workshops are set for: Baudette, Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Duluth, Eden Prairie, Forest Lake, Grand Rapids, Marshall, Minneapolis, North Mankato, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Savage, Thief River Falls, Rochester and Willmar.
