Airfield in Afghanistan commemorates Marine

An airfield in southern Afghanistan has been named in honor of a fallen Marine from the Iron Range.

Staff Sgt. Aaron Taylor was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in the Helmand province of Afghanistan Oct. 9.

Lt. Col. Matt Puglisi says Taylor hada special quality - he was smart, articulate and the type of leader other Marines wanted to be around.

Puglisi tells the Duluth News Tribune that for security reasons, the exact location of "Taylor Expeditionary Airfield" is classified. A bronze placard with details of Taylor's service are posted at the airfield.

The 27-year-old Taylor graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine.
