Duluth's chancellor addresses alleged racism

The chancellor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth says the school needs to be more vigilant about investigating allegations of racism.

Chancellor Kathryn Martin addressed an incident last week on campus which she calls "horrendous and despicable."

Two white female students are accused of having a racist Facebook wall conversation about a black female student who entered their study lounge. The university investigated, but does not have a policy that deals directly with social networking conversations on the school's server. The white students were logged onto the university's server.

The campus' code of student conduct has a zero tolerance policy on racist behavior. The Duluth News Tribune reports the school's 11,000 student population includes 130 black students.
