Two Baudette men have lost their commercial minnow licenses for three years.
The Department of Natural Resources says 69-year-old John D. Hult and 55-year-old Kim D. Barsness were convicted last week of violating regulations governing the sale of minnows.
They face fines and court costs of $1,500 each. Their equipment was forfeited.
The two men were accused of taking minnows from Upper Red Lake last spring using equipment from Lake of the Woods, violating rules meant to prevent the spread of invasive species such as the spiny waterflea.
Spiny waterfleas can disrupt the food chain by eating plankton that are an important food source for native fish. They can also foul fishing tackle by collecting on lines and rod eyelets.
