A rare Mexican wolf is going to a new home at a North Dakota zoo after other wolves attacked and nearly killed her at a Minnesota wildlife center.
The 4-year-old female wolf had been on the loose for four days in February after someone pried open her cage at the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake.
The wolf, nicknamed "Medium Toast" because of her coloration, was recaptured and returned to the center. But center executive director Peggy Callahan says the two sisters in her pack detected her weakness and turned on her.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service decided to move the female to the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck, N.D. The wolf was sedated and loaded into a crate Wednesday for the ride to North Dakota.
