A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of another man last week in south Minneapolis.
Hennepin County prosecutors on Friday charged Brandon Jermaine Lewis with second-degree murder in the death of James Eric King Jr., who was found March 17 on the sidewalk at Lake St. E. and Clinton Ave. S.
King died at the scene of gunshot wounds.
Investigators said an altercation occurred before the shooting. They accuse Lewis, who police said is a gang member, of exchanging punches with King before pulling out a handgun and shooting him.
A witness was able to identify Lewis in a photo lineup. Lewis was arrested Thursday and is being held in the Hennepin County jail.
