The director of St. Paul's public works department has resigned under fire.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Mayor Chris Coleman says Bruce Beese has quit in response to "allegations of misbehavior" by street maintenance crews that will be broadcast Monday evening by KSTP-TV.
In a promotion for the report, the station says it followed crews that were supposed to be patching potholes and caught them taking long breaks, presumably while still on the taxpayers' clock.
Coleman says in a statement that "the behavior documented by KSTP is not acceptable." He says the city has hired outside investigators to review what he called a "serious breach of public trust."
