A Minnesota-based company has issued a recall for a "Crab Creole spread," citing concerns about salmonella contamination.
Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen Inc., of Albert Lea, announced the voluntary recall on Tuesday, after a supplier told the company that the product may be contaminated with salmonella, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The statement says that no illnesses have been reported in connection with the possible contamination.
The company sold the "Crab Creole spread" to retailers and distributors in Minnesota and ten other states. The spread came in a six or seven ounce plastic container and had a "use by date" of April 20, 2010.
In a statement, the company said consumers should not eat the spread, and can receive a full refund by returning the product to the store where it was purchased.
The company had issued a separate voluntary recall of several spinach dips last week, citing concerns that a seasoning ingredient may have been contaminated with salmonella.
Company officials did not immediately return a request for information about whether the two incidents are related.
