The president of the University of Minnesota is at the Legislature to explain how the university will manage $36 million in proposed cuts in state funding.
President Robert Bruininks is scheduled to testify Thursday afternoon before the House committee on higher education.
Pawlenty's proposed solution to a projected $1.2 billion shortfall would shave $47 million from state appropriations for the state's two higher education systems.
According to the university, Bruininks is expected to make the case that with the $36 million cut, state support for the university is about the same as it was 10 years ago.
